Khadir bark (Khair chhal/ Katha) powder is a rich source of tannins. Acacia catechu tree secrets oleogum resin and is also known as Arabic Gum, Gomme Arabique, Gomme de Senegal, Gum Acacia, Gum Arabic, Gum Senegal, Gummae Mimosae, Khadir, Kher, Kumatia.
Orally, acacia is used to reduce cholesterol levels. Khair chhal is very good for Raktdosha, Raktpitta and other blood purifying property. Khair chhal is used for massaging on teeth and gum.
In manufacturing, acacia is used as a pharmaceutical ingredient in making emulsions and troches, a demulcent for throat or stomach inflammation, a masking agent for acrid substances (e.g., capsicum), and as a film-forming agent in peel-off skin masks.
Acacia is the gum that is exuded from the acacia tree. Acacia gum is a water-soluble dietary fiber. It consists mostly of arabic acid which becomes arabinose, galactose, and arabinosic acid when hydrolyzed. It is almost completely soluble in twice its weight of water.
